4. Rush Week

This week was rush week, we participated in several events that helped us meet the different tribes and the different girls in them.  The theme this year was The Wizard Of Oz

On Monday and Tuesday nights we attended coke parties.  There we able to mingle with all the girls from each tribe, eat scrumptious snacks, and just hang out.

Then came Skit night on Friday and Saturday.  All the tribes put on very creative plays for all us Freshman to enjoy.  But the catch was, we had to dress up as very interesting things for Skit night.  For example the first night was Laguna and Kissimee.  Laguna had us dress up as either a pirate or ninja.  I dressed up as a pirate.  Which is very easy to create.

While Kissimee had us dress up as a shoe.  It is a lot more complex to come up with a shoe outfit.  Even though it was a hard outfit to create, I dressed up as Dorothy's right shoe and had a friend who dressed as her left shoe.  Once the Skits were over we danced the night away at the after party.

Then on Saturday night we had  Swannanoa and Nenamoosha.  Swannanoa wanted us to dress as our favorite vegetable or like we were going on a hot date.  A friend and I decided to dress up like Two Peas in Pod.  Unfortunately, several other people had the same idea and we did not win the contest.

Finally, it was time for my favorite tribe Nenmoosha.  We were dress as dancers so I went as a hip hop dancer.  The weekend was great and I cannot wait until next year when I can be participate in rush as an active tribe member.

3. A Long Weekend

This weekend has been crazy.  Friday I had classes, practice with the Equestrian team, and then stayed out way too late with friends.  Which was so stupid of me because our first Equestrian horse show was this weekend and I had to be up at 6:00 A.M.
Exhausted, I woke up and got ready for the show in my dorm; my roommate was not too happy hearing an alarm go off that early on a Saturday morning.  Of course I had not gathered anything together the night before, so I could not find anything that morning.  Which took me twice as long to get ready.  I then drove a 15 minute drive to the barn behind an old grandmama going 30 in a 45 zone.  Got there late, ran around like a chicken with its head cut off, trying to find everything, and then waited for 5 hours until I actual showed!!!!  On top of all of this I had not eaten all day.
Once I was done showing, I ran to get something to eat and drink, came back to the dorm took a shower, and went to Quad to meet with our rush leader.  Somehow I got talked into going to the game, instead of coming back to my room and sleeping.  Which then led to getting something to eat, and going to 5th quarter.  Once that was over with we came back watched a movie, and again stayed up.
Then today I only had to get up at 9:00 and go back out to the barn, and now plan on catching up on my lost sleep.

2. An Invasion Of Privacy.... A Warning

This past week seemed to drag on for a month.  Between all of the homework, tests, and reading, I was exhausted.  I decided to get away from MC and came home for the weekend. I live in Tupelo, Mississippi which is about a three hour drive from Clinton.  I left Friday afternoon and got home around three o'clock.  I unloaded my car and brought my luggage upstairs, only to find that my mother and sister had invaded my room.  I had heard rumors of this happening before, but I never believed it would happen to me.

I walked into my room to discover that I no longer had a bed.  Upon closer inspection, I realized that the bed was still there, but it was completely covered with their stuff.  I then traversed my way to the closet, dragging my stuffed bag behind me, and discovered that my mother has filled it with all of her out of season clothes.

Finally I managed to cut a path to the bathroom.  I opened the door and to my relief everything seemed to be normal.  I decided to take a shower.  I went over to the storage closet in the bathroom to get a towel.  Keep in mind that I have only been away to school for two and a half weeks.  The closet was completely bare of any towels and was filled to capacity with my mother and sister's stuff.

When I confronted my mother about all the changes, she made no apology what so ever, and even stated that in three years my room would become the work out room............the horror!

Consider this a warning, the rumors are true, so brace yourself when you go home.  You may find that you no longer have a room - welcome to college.

1. First Day Of Class

I am so happy my first class did not start until noon.  While my roommate and suite mates are hurriedly getting ready for their eight o'clock classes, I lay fast asleep in my warm bed.  Around ten I decide to wake up and take a shower-first impressions are the most important.  As I wake up and put in my contacts, I find that the water is not working.  I figure that they are trying to fix something and the water will soon be running again.

Thirty minutes pass and still no water.  I begin to worry, so I call my mom and ask her what I should do. Her advice is to use the bottled water I bought the night before to wash my hair in the sink.  At least half of me will be clean.  As I begin to get everything ready to wash my hair in the sink, I decide to pray.  I ask God to please turn the water back on just for a couple of minutes, so I can at least wash my hair.  I even inform Him I will happily take a cold shower.  As I put my head over the sin, I decide to try the water one last time.

I hold my breath, slowly turn the knob, and a miracle happens.  The water is flowing.  I jump in the shower only to find that the hot water is not working, but I do not care.  God answered my prayer and I was going to my first class clean.
